Android Beta Test
Thank you for helping test Four Books for Android. Even ten minutes of poking around on your device is genuinely useful.
What to Do
1. SIGN UP — Email the same address your Play Store uses to support@daoxue.academy with a sentence about who you are (scholar, reader, app designer) and why you’d like to test. To find it: open the Play Store app, tap your profile picture (top right) — the account shown at the top is the one we need. The invite only works for that exact account.
2. JOIN — We will reply with a join link once Google approves the app and the beta launches. Open it, make sure you are signed in with that same email, and tap Accept. Then install Four Books from the store page.
3. TRY THE FREE APP FIRST — The basic app is free, but English verses only: no commentaries, no Chinese, with limited encyclopedia and search. Spend a few minutes clicking around as a first-time visitor would.
4. GET THE SCHOLAR PACK — In the app, open Settings > Scholar Pack and tap the purchase button. At checkout, choose “Test card, always approves.” You will not be charged — beta accounts get fake test cards instead of real payment. (The test purchase auto-cancels after about two weeks.)
5. EXPLORE EVERYTHING — There is a lot to play with. Commentary sections spring open, characters reveal a literal gloss when tapped, and the toolbar holds the Language Display and Sentence Mode controls to transform the display. Under the toolbar’s three-dots menu, check out the Full Verse Literal Gloss with its Legge-style big characters (pivot to landscape for the parallel layout). Also in the three-dots menu, Add Bookmark and Report Issue. You can select and Copy just about any text. For fun, Shake for Quote, then copy or share it. On tablets, close the sidebar to enter the Fullscreen Reader — try both portrait and landscape. In Settings (the gear icon on any book’s table of contents), find the right Font Size for your device, try Dark Mode, or make all three Encyclopedia Daoxue books browsable.
6. TELL US WHAT YOU SEE — Send screenshots of anything that looks wrong or confusing, plus anything you especially liked. With so many different Android phone makers, even ordinary screenshots are genuinely helpful — they show us the app exactly as your phone draws it. (We have tested on a Samsung A36 and a Pixel 9; any other model is new ground.) Email support@daoxue.academy with your device model and screenshots.
7. GET THE PUBLIC RELEASE — When the app launches publicly, your installed copy simply updates in place — nothing to delete or reinstall. Just keep using it.
We will send permanent unlocks to top testers. 🙇
